Help us creating awareness throughout #PFmonth
Why are people united to create awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) each September? We do it because PF is not very known despite the fact that it is a devastating, deadly disease. There is currently no cure!
What does Pulmonary Fibrosis mean?
“Pulmonary” means lung and the word “fibrosis” means scar tissue— like scars that form on the skin from an old injury or surgery.
So, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) means scarring in the lungs.
Over time, the scar tissue blocks the movement of oxygen from inside the tiny air sacs in the lungs into the bloodstream. This is a life threatening disease.
Low oxygen levels (and the stiff scar tissue itself) can cause people who have pulmonary fibrosis to feel short of breath, particularly when walking and exercising.
The lung scarring in pulmonary fibrosis can't be reversed.
